Airport

If you are arriving by plane then you have a number of options of how to get from Dublin Airport to Trinity Hall.

  1. The easiest albeit dearest way is to get straight into a cab – it will cost you about 30 Euros.

  1. The most popular option is the Air Coach (www.aircoach.ie).  The coach leaves every 15 minutes.  It is a bright blue bus with ‘Air Coach’ in huge letters on its side and it departs directly outside the arrivals entrance.  It costs 12 Euros for a return or 7 Euros for a single.  You will have to get off  in the middle of town – your best option is to get off directly outside Trinity College.  From here you can either take a taxi (see Taxi section) or for a cheaper option you can walk up Grafton Street and take the Luas (see Luas section).

  1. The cheapest and slowest way is to get a public bus which will cost you about 3 Euros.

Taxi Service

  1. As you will work out pretty quickly, Dublin public transport is limited and doesn’t run late at night.  So a popular choice is taking a taxi.  From the centre of town a taxi will cost you about 10 Euros.

  1. The taxis charge you for every extra person in the cab and a one Euro charge if you order a taxi.

  1. There is also a charge of about 1 or 2 Euros if you are going to the airport.

  1. A good taxi number is: 016772222

Luas

  1. The Luas is the tram system in Dublin.  There are two lines – the green line and the red line.

  1. Green Line: This is the line you will be using the most.  The closest stop to Halls is Milltown which is down Temple Road and then to the right.  This will take you into town to the last stop – St. Stephen’s Green which is at the top of Grafton Street.  If you go in the opposite direction towards Sandyford you can go and visit places like Dundrum Shopping Centre (Balally stop).

  1. A monthly pass is a good idea if you decide to use this as your main way to get in and out of town.  Don’t get a pass for the entire green line as you won’t use it all – just get a monthly pass for the section of the line which includes Miltown to St. Stephen’s Green.  This should cost about 35 Euros – you do not need a Luas AND bus pass – you only need a Luas pass.

  1. Also if you get a student travel card at the beginning of term – this gives you discounts on the Dublin Bus, the DART and the Luas and costs about 15 Euros.

  1. Red Line: This is not connected to the green line and is used only when on that side of town.

Buses

  1. To get in and out of town from Halls you could also take the bus.  The 14A leaves directly outside the main gates of Halls and stops outside the arts block entrance of College.  You have to have the exact fare when you get on the bus which is around about 1.40 Euros.
  2. There are also other buses that take you to Rathmines but you would have to get off and walk from there.

Dart

1.       The Dart (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) is the rail line running along the coast of Dublin, from Malahide and Howth southwards as far as Greystones, Co Wicklow. 2.       If you fancy a trip to the beach or you want to see some beautiful coastline the DART is your best option.3.       A single ticket along the entire length of the DART line will cost €3.20, but won't allow you to hop on and off along the journey.
