Food and Shops!

The most drastic change that we have when we come to college is definitely the food we eat!   However, living in Dublin, we are all spoilt for choice with a huge range of takeaways, restaurants and the like for those who are willing to spend their weekly allowance on deliveries instead of tackling the oven.  For those of you who want to cook there are plenty of shops nearby where you can do your weekly shopping! A convenient supermarket is Dunnes Stores in St. Stephen's Green shopping centre - right next to the St. Stephens Green luas stop.  There is also a largeTesco in Rathmines which is at most about a 10 minutes walk down the Rathmines Road! Both are equally as cheap and provide their own discounted brands -"St.Bernards" for Dunnes Stores ands "Tesco Value" for Tesco. If you are willing to go for quality at a slightly higher price there is a Marks and Spenser on Grafton St.If you're really on a budget then there is an ALDI in Rathmines just past Tesco on the right hand side. it's a great place for cheap pizza, cookies, chocolate and cheap drinks! If you have run out of a few small but vital things such as bread and milk just five minutes down the Rathmines Road is a Centra and a Londis. Centra seems to be the cheapest of the two and it also has an ATM ( there is also an ATM across from Tesco).

In college there are plenty of places to eat.The newly refurbished buttery and dining room does huge ranges of hot foods, salads, sandwiches, baguettes and smoothies including student specials which cost around 4 euro to 5 euro. Alternatively if you just want a snack Spar(Nassau St and Grafton St.) offer fresh rolls and sandwiches prices between 3-4 euro. There is also the Hamilton Café(you will probably just use this if you are in the science faculty). It provides cheap hot meals, paninis and sandwiches made to order, a wide selection of cereals and scones.

Don't forget that despite being on a budget, you can still eat healthily and make your money go a long way.  Try and get your 'five-a-day' even if that means drinking lots of orange juice and snacking on fresh fruit - you will be thankful in the long term if it means you manage to avoid 'freshers flu'!
