Music In halls, there are two music rooms, the acoustic practice room upstairs in Oldham house, right beside the library, and the big one with the drum kit in one of the squash courts. We are hoping to improve these locations and facilities as the year goes on, but for the mean time these facilities are ready for you to use, however you’ll need to get on the Trinity Hall Music Society List to get the keys. This year we’re really going to try to encourage everybody, regardless of taste or talent to get involved in musical activities. In addition to improving equipment and facilities, there’s a vast range of activities the JCR will be organising that everyone can get involved in. - Karaoke Night: Think the X factor’s bad? At least they were sober!
- Orchestra/Wind band: For those of you of the more classical persuasion, we’re going to try and organize Trinity Hall’s first mini-orchestra! Even if you don’t play, or haven’t brought your instrument, if you can read music and like being in charge, why not try out for conductor?
- Music Lessons: If you’ve ever fancied learning a musical instrument, or improving your skills, this year we’ll be starting music lesson groups, beginning with percussion, guitar and piano. I’ll be taking the percussion classes
So what do you need to do to get involved? - E-mail me your name, student number, apartment number and instrument. Without these details I can’t put you on the approved list for the Trinity Hall Music Room. I forgot to do this last year and believe me; it’ll cause major headaches later on.
- If you fancy trying out for any of the activities above, e-mail me or call around at my flat: 89.7. Being a hard working Philosophy student means I’ll be around halls a great deal.
- Show up! I guarantee you will never find a better combination of people, time, facilities and energy in which to be creative, learn and have fun. Give things a go, meet new people and get into great new music. You won’t regret it.
